The Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, is a 15-day festival that is celebrated annually depending on the sighting of the new moon. This event is also known as the Spring Festival, and an animal is associated with each New Year. The animals rotate and repeat according to a fixed cycle. This year is the YEAR OF THE WATER RABBIT.

The year of the water rabbit will bring you a very different energy from 2022. It officially begins on January 22, 2023 and we will be seeing both the rabbit energy and the water energy. Water can be very yin or very yang. Think of a waterfall with lots of fast-moving water. This is the yang expression of water. Now, think of a still lake with a beautiful mountain backdrop. This is the yin water energy of 2023. Yin water energy is a very contemplative, spiritual energy. It will bring you peace, healing, and relaxation. It will call on you to trust your inner knowing. The Rabbit is gentle, quiet, kind and yet it moves quickly with confidence and is quite clever. It is known to be the luckiest of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac. The Rabbit moves steadily toward its goals, regardless of any negativity or problems encountered. It symbolizes mercy, elegance, and beauty. People who are born in the year of the rabbit are calm, peaceful, vigilant, and witty.

The Lunar New Year is about starting with a clean slate, cleansing the negative and welcoming the positive. Set yourself up for good luck this upcoming Year of the Water Rabbit by starting anew with a positive mindset and joining in on some of the following Lunar New Year traditions:

  •     Give your home a thorough winter cleaning. This is called "sweeping away the dust". Cleaning rids your home of last year’s troubles, and puts on your best foot forward the Lunar New Year.

  • Invite positive energy. Next, you will want to bring in auspicious chi or positive energy into your home by adding colorful flowers or plants, purchase a new door mat, fill a fruit bowl with fresh and healthy fruits such as oranges and apples and sweets, such as chocolates and candies to sweeten the New Year.

  • Stock your fridge and pantry. Coming into abundance at the Lunar New Year will carry forward into the rest of the year, so make sure your rice bins are full!

  • Refresh your wardrobe. New shoes and clothes symbolize a new beginning. It's a great time to gift away clothes and belongings that may serve someone else better than you, especially items that are associated with heartache and/or pain.

  • Share the wealth with loved ones!  Money in red envelopes is believed to bring good luck, as red is believed to be a lucky color, so it’s considered lucky money.

This is also a great time to write down your intentions and what you have planned for the rest of the year. Dare to dream big, make your vision board and start training your mind to let positive thoughts come in, set the tone for the remaining of the year to be positive, healthy, and abundant!
